His books on music include <em>The Land without Music: Music,Culture and Society in Twentieth Century Britain<\/em> (1997), the edited collection <em>Living through Pop<\/em> (1999), and most recently <em>Popular Music:the Age of Multimedia<\/em> (2007). He contributed to the <em>Cambridge History of Twentieth Century Music<\/em> and the <em>Cambridge Companion to Recorded Music<\/em>.
